Locomotives
This page will show case all of our great locomotives and will explain a little bit of information about each one.
Sapphire
Sapphire is our second Exmoor steam locomotive to arrive at Pugneys in October 2022. You can usually see Sapphire running on a Sunday when the weather is nice and she runs on our events such as Halloween and Christmas.
Jane
Jane completed by Exmoor in 2000 came to Pugneys from Brookside Miniature Railway on the 14th August 2018. You can usually see Jane running on a Saturday if the weather is nice and runs on our events such as Halloween and Christmas.
Peggy
Peggy arrived to Pugneys in 2019 from a private railway in North Yorkshire. Although our smallest steam engine she will easily haul a full 3 coached train. Peggy runs occasionally throughout the year and often draws quite a lot of attention for being a smaller engine.
Ivor
You may very well recognise Ivor from the TV show 'Ivor The Engine' which aired way back in 1959. Our very own Ivor arrived shortly after the railway first opened in 2017. Ivor mainly runs throughout the summer holidays although you may occasionally see Ivor running on the odd Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year.
brutus
Our American GP40 Brutus arrived to Pugneys late in 2017 and has been heavily involved in the railway. Brutus has helped haul our works train and has hauled many passenger trains over the years. In it's time at Pugneys Brutus has been overhauled and it's petrol engine replaced with a diesel. Brutus is a popular diesel loco amongst our volunteers and passengers.
Grumbly
Grumbly joined the railway in 2022 and came from Runddigton Miniature Railway. During early 2023 Grumbly received an extensive overhaul consisting of a new engine and a rather dashing re-paint. Grumbly now matches our purple set of coaches lovely and is another firm favourite loco amongst our volunteer drivers.
The blue and green 47
Our 47s are often seen hauling passenger trains at Pugneys even more so through the summer holidays. Fun fact the green 47 actually hauled the first passenger train back in April 2017 when the railway re-opned again after an extensive refurbishment. The blue 47 then joined the railway in 2020 coming from Grosvener Park Minature Railway. The 47s since then have run top and tailed meaning that we do not have to turn one the locos around which is very handy on busy days.
GP38
The GP38 built in 1993 by Knightly Engineering arrived to Pugneys in 2023 in perfect time for our 2023 diesel gala. The GP38 has been a great asset to the railway and has hauled many passneger trains and helped move our works trains around.
Planet
Planet arrived to the railway at the same time as Peggy and came from the same private railway. Planet runs occasionally throughout the year hauling passenger trains. Planet also helps out sometimes moving the works train around but is overall a strong and handy little loco to have at the railway.
Scamps
Throughout the years Pugneys has collected quite a few scamps those being numbers; 38, 56, 60, 140. The scamps are great little locos mainly used for moving the ballast tipper wagon and the rest of the tool train during periods of track maintenance. They do not often haul passenger trains but can be seen doing this on our Scamp and Friends Days when at most we have had 10 Scamps a mix of home and guests running on the railway.
