PUGNEYS LIGHT RAILWAY

Get to Know Us
PLR is a 7 1/4 inch gauge miniature light railway operating within the Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield. The railway first opened in 1998 as a 500 yard end to end and was further extended in 1999 to a 750 yard balloon loop with trains running from Pugneys Lakeside. The railway was originally built by Jim Pinder who sadly passed away in February 2013. The railway was closed for a number of years before being taken over by Bob Brocklehurst who with his team of volunteers restored the railway and the first passenger train after the restoration was in April 2017. Since then Pugneys Light Railway has grown from strength to strength from welcoming more volunteers and gaining lots of locomotives including our 2 Exmoor steam locomotives 'Jane' and 'Sapphire'. If you would like to learn more about our motive power please visit the 'locomotives' page on this website.
